Approval of Super critical power station
The Ministry is concerned with perspective planning, policy formulation, processing of projects for investment decision, monitoring of the implementation of power projects and the administration and enactment of legislation in regard to thermal, hydro power generation, transmission and distribution.

The planned development of power sector began only after the formation of Rajasthan State Electricity Board in 1957 which was unbundled into following five Govt. Companies in July 2000.
1. Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUN)
2. Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPN)
3. Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL)
4. Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL)
5. Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JDVVNL)
